Some chords require three fingers, some require four, and some use four strings while some use all six. Perfecting these right away are not as important as understanding their structure and how to transition between them all.

The cool thing about the guitar is that it doesn't require you to understand a lot of theory in order to play it, but if you want to be able to write music on the guitar, you will also need a solid grasp on how the chords you have been playing work together. For instance every key follows a scale of seven notes and within those seven notes are three major chords and three minor chords. These are simple things you will learn with only a few hours of study, but will have incredible impact on your ability to analyze guitar music.
